Research Documents from Findlay Pirie

Findlay Pirie (1925 – 2017) was a native of Portsoy.  He spent his working life with the Post Office and was latterly Postmaster in Banff.  After his retirement he spent his time researching the history of Portsoy, amassing a large collection of documents and photographs.

Apart from a small number of these documents appearing on social media, this valuable data has never been published.

One of the aims of this website is to publish Findlay’s painstaking research, making it available for the first time to a wider public.

Some of the main pages on this website contain excerpts of Findlay’s work, however, much of the research data will be of interest mainly to the serious antiquarian.  Some of his original documents are lengthy, and therefore not convenient for scrolling on the devices most people use.

This page provides the material in pdf format.  The result will be that the bulk of Findlay’s research is accessible, if not in a format that is conveniently browsable, at least in one that is publicly available.
